ELLE Magazine: Holistic Health and Wellbeing in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
You can read the Ebru Şinik interview published in the May 2026 issue of ELLE Magazine below. An insightful conversation on the future of holistic health, global wellness trends, and the impacts of rising artificial intelligence technologies on our quality of life...
1) What is the most important theme of this year's Wellbeing Conference? With what concrete insights will participants leave the conference?
As the Association's Board of Directors, all the topics we have covered for four years are, in our view, vital subjects that shape our lives and affect our overall quality of life on behalf of wellbeing. The topics we focus on across the 9 panels we will feature this year are career, work-life balance, financial wellbeing, longevity, skincare, the health sector, exercise, and music… We will examine all these themes from a broad perspective with our expert guests, offering practical recommendations that elevate the state of wellbeing.
2) What are the most prominent and up-to-date trends in the field of wellbeing in Turkey and around the world?
While the world is transforming rapidly socio-culturally and socio-economically, it is witnessing an acceleration perhaps never experienced in its history. The driving force behind this momentum is particularly that individuals freely share information through social media channels without needing any third-party approval, and as a result, accessibility to both true and false information has reached the highest point in human history. In addition to social media, AI-based applications and search engines, which have seamlessly entered individual lives over the last 3-4 years, have also contributed significantly to this phenomenon.
All these developments indicate that people are increasingly inclined to research, try innovations, and seek meaning regarding life, leading to a rising trend in overall awareness. Right at this point, the concept of wellbeing emerges before us as one of the fastest-growing industries in the world.
What is Wellbeing?
In today's fast-paced world, our spiritual and mental health is just as important as our physical health. Right at this point, the concept of "wellbeing" comes into play. Wellbeing is a term that expresses individuals' overall quality of life and satisfaction. It encompasses a state of balance consisting of physical, mental, emotional, and social components, and is directly related to how a person feels in the primary areas that shape their life.
The term wellbeing refers to simultaneous balance established in Career, Financial, Social, and Environmental Life included in the landmark Wellbeing Research published by GALLUP in 2010—which represents 98% of the world's population—along with daily choices that balance the three primary bodies that humans possess: physical, mental, and spiritual. It is a main overarching term that harbors all wellness and preventative medicine practices under its umbrella.
According to data published in February 2021 by the TIME Magazine 2030 Committee, the 2021-2030 process will be the ultimate determinant of whether our planet remains suitable for human habitation. Within this crucial timeframe, the 6 main pillars that will save the planet and all humanity are specified as innovation, equity, sustainability, economy, leadership, and wellbeing.
When I list the most prominent issues in the wellness sector under the overarching umbrella of wellbeing, we see that the most extensive product ranges are offered to the global market in these 8 main categories:
- 1. Quality Sleep | 2. Functional Nutrition
- 3. Exercise | 4. Weight Loss | 5. Beauty
- 6. Stress Management | 7. Mental Health & Mindfulness
- 8. Healthy Aging: Longevity & Wellaging
According to the 2024 data from the Global Wellness Economy Monitor, the wellness economy reached a peak of 6.3 trillion dollars and is expected to rise to approximately 9 trillion dollars by 2028. In McKinsey's latest research titled “The Future of Wellness,” which analyzed global consumer habits, the focus was placed on six prominent categories: health, sleep, nutrition, fitness, beauty, and mindfulness. This is driven by the growing interest of global investors, resulting in numerous corporate mergers and acquisitions.
In this research analyzing more than 9,000 consumers across China, Germany, the UK, and the United States, two main insights stand out: Gen Z demographics favor "better appearance" as a high priority, whereas Millennials focus significantly more on raising mindfulness—prioritizing meditation, breathing techniques, and traditional practices that encourage conscious living. For both generations, wellness is no longer an occasional activity but a deeply personalized daily practice.
The Impact of Technology and Artificial Intelligence on Our Well-being
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly integrated into our daily routines, providing major benefits in Physical Health (personalized healthcare, longevity diagnostics), Mental Health (psychological counseling, stress and sleep optimization), and Education. Currently, AI can monitor real-time stress levels through biometric data and recommend tailored meditation practices or breathing exercises on the spot.
However, at this intersection, it is vital for consumers to maintain a mindful and discerning approach. When utilized consciously, these technologies serve as excellent complementary tools to traditional practices, offering prompts and suggestions that elevate and sustain your well-being. Yet, the primary mechanism is always the human being themselves.
"But one must never forget this: We are not machines; we are holographic beings as humans, and the wisdom of healthy living is inherently hidden within us!"
Technology can guide us and provide metrics, but true transformation is an inner, deeply structured personal journey. Through regular meditation and traditional nose-delivered pranayama breathing exercises, individuals can unlock their internal guidance mechanisms. When choosing AI-based health platforms, ensure you select applications developed by organizations whose core methodologies and content engines are built by reputable, ethically driven experts.
Personally, in many application projects brought to me for consultancy in Turkey, I frequently witness setups that are built incorrectly from the ground up because the developers possess almost no genuine know-how regarding holistic health concepts. Ultimately, as AI evolves, its wellness applications will expand further, offering innovative pathways. Our responsibility in this rapidly changing world remains to take excellent care of our bodies and minds, taking safe, sustainable steps in our endless journey of discovery.
3) What are your simplest three recommendations to support wellbeing in daily life?
Morning routines are the fundamental determinants of the physical and mental energy we carry throughout the day. My most valued habits include simple Ayurvedic protocols that ensure optimal oral and sinus hygiene, followed by a large glass of warm lemon water as the very first thing to enter the stomach, and starting the day with a 5-10 minute pranayama breathing session to balance the central nervous system and prepare the mind for focus.
4) Finally, what are the frequently made wellbeing mistakes and how can we avoid them?
People often delay starting because they falsely assume that elevating their overall quality of life requires huge blocks of open time. On the contrary, integrating tiny, micro-habits into your lifestyle one by one over time, without disrupting your comfort zone, yields immense long-term results. Do not delay investing in your state of well-being; remember that introducing even a single routine will immediately ripple into short and long-term vitality, motivating you to naturally add the next.
